(Part I) by Anthony B. Campbell, Minister "This know also, that in the last days, perilous times shall come." II Timothy 3:1 Last Sunday, we had a great time in the Lord. Souls were saved and we worshiped our God in spirit and in truth. We sang songs of praise, enjoyed some good Christian fellowship and were encouraged in the Word. If only every day could be like Sunday. However, after we said the closing prayer at the Sunday evening service, the realities of life in this world hit us head on. From a Super Bowl halftime fiasco to one middle school student taking the life of another to the sad story of another young girl’s life being destroyed. Although, as Christians, we must "set our affections on things above", we must never forget Paul’s warning to Timothy - we ARE living in perilous times. The word perilous infers difficult or dangerous and based on Paul’s description of the attitude and behaviors that would be present during those times, we can see that those times that Paul talked about are now. The times that we live in are definitely difficult and dangerous especially for those who want to live right. It is impossible to go through this life and not be disturbed by the things that we see going on around us. Every believer can see that the devil is doing his job very well. His whole mission is to steal, kill and destroy. However, although these things we see may disturb us, we must never let them destroy us (or our faith). So what is a child of God to do to survive perilous times? You will either succumb, give up or you will remain faithful. After giving examples of the way things would be during the last days, in verse 12 through 14, Paul told Timothy (and Christians today) how we can make it in times like these. First, he let us know that anyone who lives godly will have a hard time. Christians must understand that the "prince of this world" is not going to make it easy for a child of God to live right. Most of the teachings of Christ contradict the teachings and behaviors of this world. Child of God, you WILL have some tough days. So, do not be surprised at the challenges you will face. To be continued...
