Will You Go Also? By: Anthony B. Campbell This is the question that Jesus posed to the twelve disciples after many of his “followers” abandoned him when confronted about the seriousness and the sacrifice necessary in following Jesus. As we begin a new year, consider this question: Will you remain with the Lord in 2010 or will you go also? There are many who start the race with the Lord but never finish. Why is this? Why do some of our brothers and sisters remain faithful to the Lord while others turn away or fall away? Rather than focus on the myriad of reasons (excuses) that can be cited for why some Christians fall away, let us focus on why many remain. That answer can be found in Peter’s response to the question that Jesus asked. Peter said, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe them, and we know you are the Holy One of God.” John 6:68-69 The key to being a faithful Christian is somewhat simple – REALIZATION. Peter made it clear that he and the other disciples realized or came to the conclusion that there was nowhere else for them to go to get what Jesus had to offer. So what does the faithful Christian realize? 1) Jesus has and IS the answer. Peter realized that in order to receive eternal life, he had to remain with Jesus because Jesus would show them and share with them what a disciple must do in order to live with God forever. No one else can do that except Jesus. Faithful Christians realize that once they have found Jesus Christ, they don’t need to look any further. Are you still searching or looking around for something that only Christ can give you? Are you satisfied with Christ? 2) Belief is essential. Hebrews 11:6 says, “Without faith it is IMPOSSIBLE to please him. For he that cometh to God, must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Peter realized that Jesus was the real thing and he truly believed the words and things that Jesus was teaching them. A faithful Christian truly believes. His or her faith is grounded and settled. The faithful Christian believes God and trusts in his word. Do you believe that you have found the real thing in Christ Jesus? Do you truly believe and trust the word of God? 3) You have to be sure. Peter said “WE KNOW you are the Holy One of God”. This means that he was sure. He was convinced. The devil thrives on doubt. He used the element of doubt to persuade Eve to take a bite of the fruit that God told them not to. Faithful Christians are fully persuaded or convinced that Jesus is the Son of God, the way to God and the source of their salvation. Are you totally convinced the Jesus Christ is the savior? In 2010, as a Christian, you will encounter obstacles and things that the enemy will use to challenge your faith and deter you from your walk with the Lord. Satan would love to see you turn away from and leave Jesus. However, you do not have to be one of those who fall away. You can be one of those who remain faithful. Just realize what you have in Christ and remind yourself of it every day.
